Steve comes to us from Sterling Life and Health Insurance Company, being licensed to sell life insurance, and health insurance in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York. Smathers Agency would like you to join us in congratulating Cindy Neely for passing her Insurance Licensing Test. She has been with our agency since April 2007 working as a customer service representative and an administrative assistant. She recently studied and was successful in passing her Property and Casualty test.
March 2007 Smathers Insurance is pleased to announce the addition of William Smathers as the Agency’s Corporation President. In its fiftieth year of operation, he joins the family insurance business after a long and successful tenure as a local real estate broker and appraiser.
CIC Designee
The designation of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) has been conferred upon William J. Smathers, President of the R. James Smathers Agency, Inc.
located in Clarion, Pennsylvania following his successful completion of a rigorous insurance education program sponsored by the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors.
The announcement was made by Dr. William T. Hold, President of the Society of CIC, who conferred the designation on Mr. Smathers in an official ceremony conducted on June 4, 2008 at Sheraton Station Square.
The Society of CIC is a key member of The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research, the nation’s preeminent provider of insurance and risk management education. The National Alliance conducts more than 2,500 programs annually, throughout all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Currently, more than 29,500 agents and insurance professionals throughout the country have received the CIC designation.
Mr. Smathers has demonstrated his professional competence through the successful completion of the five CIC institutes and comprehensive written examinations focusing on all major fields of insurance, insurance management, and agency operations.
Mr. Smathers is a graduate of Clarion University of PA with a Degree in Business Administration and is past president of the Clarion Rotary, as well as former Mayor of Clarion. He holds a real estate broker license and has over 30 years experience as a real estate appraiser. In addition to currently being president of Howard Hanna Shippen-Realty and Appraisal Associates of Western PA., he is past president of the Tri-County Board of Realtors. He and his wife, the former Beth Burns, have four daughters. Bill and Beth reside in Clarion.
